Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer Obdam (1692 - 1766)
The fame of Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer Obdam (1692-1766) as composer is relatively recent. The discovery of a manuscript of the Concerti Armonici in the library of Castle Twickel enabled the musicologist Albert Dunning to prove that the Concerti Armonici were in fact written by Van Wassenaer. In 1980 he was identified and recognised as the composer of these chamber works, already well-known repertoire, but previously attributed, amongst others, to the Italian Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.
Unico Wilhelm married Dodonea Lucia van Goslinga from Franeker. One of their children was Carel George van Wassenaer Obdam. Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer Obdam was the third son of Jacob van Wassenaer Obdam and Adriana van Raesfelt. He was a member of the Overijsselse, later of the Hollandse Ridderschap (Dutch Order of Knights), deputy of the Staten-Generaal, and holder of several chilvaric and political offices. His memory is immortalized through his - at that time - hidden talents as composer of the six Concerti Armonici
