Erik Bosgraaf: Revisiting Bach
Bach’s harpsichord concertos are often adaptations of works that the composer had originally written for other instruments. In the twentieth century there were also adaptations written for oboe, oboe d’amore, violin and organ, but it is unclear whether or not these instruments were in the original score. So far no reconstructions for recorder have appeared, even though the recorder was one of Bach’s favorite instruments. He used the recorder in two Brandenburg concertos, in about twenty cantatas and in the St. Matthew Passion. The guiding principles leading to such reconstructions will be addressed in the lecture hall. |

Angeli, Zingare e Pastori
Symbols in the Italian renaissance music
Angeli, Zingare e Pastori is a collection of masterpieces from Venice, Naples, Milan, Bologna and Rome, the important Italian musical centers in the 16th and 17th centuries. Motets, madrigals and ingenious instrumental music by grand masters such as Giovanni Perluigi Palestrina and Andrea Gabrieli. The music is celebratory, gallant and full of sparkling virtuosity.
